Skate park
(January 29,2007)
The city has designated $350,000 to spend in 2007-08 toward
the construction of a skate park, and city officials say they hope to get
some help from community groups and skateboarders.
"We've identified three parcels of property owned by the city and we want
to partner with (Hendersonville Kids Alliance To Skateboard) to help
choose the location best suited for a park," Newman said. He hopes the
group could help by organizing contributions from private sources such as
private companies, skateboard vendors and advertising.
Diane Hendrickson is a parent advisor for Hendersonville Kids Alliance to
Skateboard. Her son, Justin Hayes, 15, came before the City Council last
year to push the need for a skate park.
"We are extremely excited about the prospect of working on this project,
we are gearing up and are looking forward to enlisting help from community
members and teens interested in skateboarding in Hendersonville,"
Hendrickson said.
The properties under consideration include one parcel off of Greenville
Highway, behind Food Lion and accessed off of Chadwick Avenue. A second
parcel is down by Toms Park on the east side of Wash Creek. The third
parcel is by the Green Meadows neighborhood east of Seventh Avenue, off
Locust Street.
